Getting New Dispensers? Here’s What You Should Know

TopTierPumpWith the coming changes to requirements for accepting credit cards on the retail fueling island, many retailers are making the leap to upgrade their dispensers to newer technology. If you have recently ordered, or are considering ordering new retail fuel dispensers, here are some things to keep in mind.

  • Dispensers from both Gilbarco and Wayne come from the factory with Cenex Graphics on the lower door and valance, as well as octane decals and product identification labeling. Additional Cenex-required decals such as pump numbers and credit card decals are not included with new dispensers.
  • In addition to the factory installed graphics noted above, the following decals are needed in order to meet Cenex retail image requirements.
    • Cenex approved dispenser numbers – 1 required for each fueling position
    • Cenex credit card deck decals – 1 required for any fueling position with pay at pump capabilities
    • “Warning” – Regulatory red and white decals or plaques – These are commonly placed on the dispenser risers. If visible from both sides of the dispenser, only 1 is required. If not visible from both sides, a decal is required on both sides
    • Top Tier™ decals – 1 required on the product identification panel for each gasoline product (not to be used for ethanol products above E10)
    • Oval “Be Safe When Fueling” decals are recommended on each dispenser side

You can order the decals listed above by completing the Fuel Island Order Form. Please note that labeling must be in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. For alternative fuel labeling requirements, please refer to the Cenex Retail Image Standards Guide.

  • If you are participating in the Cenex Premium Diesel at Retail program, you will need to specify this when ordering your new diesel dispensers or you will receive the standard Cenex diesel image. When placing an order for a Cenex Premium Diesel imaged dispenser, your winter product offering will determine which valance image your dispenser will display.
  • Hoses and nozzles are not included with new dispensers. If you intend to replace your existing hardware, be sure to tell your Wayne or Gilbarco authorized service company that you need these items installed with your new dispensers, or contact CHS Energy Equipment at 800-852-8186, option 1.
  • Pump Toppers are not included with new dispensers. If you want to keep your existing frames, be sure to tell your installer to remove them when they remove the old dispensers. If you would like to purchase new pump topper frames, you can order them on the same order form as the Cenex decals noted above. Inserts for your frames are available at Cenex Shop.
  • Cenex has a network of preferred partners to assist you with your dispenser purchase and installation. These trusted partners are familiar with Cenex requirements and can help you make an educated decision on your upgrades. Projects with CHS Marketing Partners will be billed through CHS and all CHS programs that you qualify for will apply.

Important: Because many locations were surveyed several months ago, we ask that you please notify us if you purchase new dispensers prior to having your image upgrade completed.  Image materials are ordered on a site-specific basis, and are based on our most recent survey information on file. Failure to notify us of new dispensers may result in delays in completing your upgrade. You can notify us of new dispensers by sending an email to refinedfuelsmarketing@chsinc.com or by calling CHS Retail Image & Equipment at 800-852-8186, ext 7729.
