When the outdoor EMV liability deadline was pushed back to 2020, many retailers breathed a sigh of relief knowing they had gained more time to make upgrades to their forecourt. Believe it or not, that announcement was made over a year and a half ago, and while 2020 may seem like the distant future, we are moving quickly toward that deadline.
EMV software for indoor transactions is now available for all CHS supported point-of-sale solutions, and we also recently installed our first beta site for outdoor EMV. What does this mean? Although the outdoor EMV liability shift doesn’t take place until October 2020, the increased number of EMV capable payment terminals is increasing every day. Consumers are beginning to understand the added security that EMV payment terminals provide, and will be seeking out locations with these capabilities.

Qualifying equipment also meets the CHS requirement of encrypting PIN pad (EPP) and secure card reader (SCR) even if you aren’t planning to move to outdoor EMV acceptance in the future.
