Hunter Pump Islands

Pete Hunter started Hunter Construction in 1988 out of Alpena, MI. Initially, Pete was doing mostly residential construction and built his first house when he was 16 years old. For the past 27 years, his main focus has been on commercial construction and improving the image of gas stations from the ground up.

After working in and around gas stations for so long, the one thing that always stuck out in his mind was the deteriorating gas pump islands. It seemed that everywhere he looked, stations would be updated with state-of-the-art, new technology in lighting, canopies, dispensers and signage, but still had their old, paint-chipped and corroded pump islands. After several years of brainstorming and a few different methods tried, Hunter Pump Islands was invented and patented.

Hunter Pump Islands continues to be a family-run business operating out of Alpena, MI. Their retro-fit island system combines stainless steel and concrete to reface gas pump islands and curbing around gas stations. Each station is typically completed in about one day. This process saves owners time and money by not shutting down the station or pulling the dispensers. Their islands are made from 304 #4 20-gauge stainless steel and 3,000-pound compression-strength concrete.

Even though Hunter Pump Islands operates out of a small town in Northern Michigan, they travel to over 21 states. They are constantly working on expanding their territory to better serve their customers.
