September is Food Safety Month

Each September, National Food Safety month presents a great opportunity to connect with your staff and reinforce the importance of good food safety practices.

Food safety should be a commitment, a mindset and smart business practice for every food service establishment. It is critical that every employee in an operation be constantly reminded of the importance of food safety, as they literally have the health of their customers in their hands. Health can be influenced by what that employee does, or doesn’t do, relative to food safety.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that over 75 million people each year suffer from a food borne illness, with over 300,000 people requiring hospitalization, and over 3,000 deaths. Sadly, most of these incidents are preventable. The cost of food borne illness can be devastating to a company, a brand, and an industry.

The number one job of a foodservice professional is to protect the health of customers, every time, every day, and every meal. Take this opportunity to conduct team meetings and retrain your employees on the basic food safety principals, and market food safety to your customers.
